About Skylar Nelson
Skylar Nelson is a senior Journalism major with a minor in Sports Administration at Howard University. She is an extremely hardworking, dedicated, and motivated individual with a profound interest in sports journalism and business.
Throughout her time at Howard University, Skylar has not only acquired but also enhanced her skills in reporting, writing, public speaking, social media management, content creation, interviewing, public relations, film production, and graphic design. Above all, Skylar harbors a passion for authentic storytelling that can truly make a greater impact in any community. She is committed to doing the work that is needed to help all communities thrive, creating successful pathways for future generations.
Currently, Skylar wears multiple hats as a student reporter and content creator working with Scholar Athletes Sports Network (@SASN.TV), Howard University Football, Spotlight Network, Howard University Softball, The Hilltop Newspaper, and Cover 2 Cover Magazine. She is an intern for the Washington Informer, a Black, woman-owned multimedia news publication in D.C. During her internship, Skylar has covered a wide range of sports, teams, and events across the DMV, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, high school sports, community events, and the historic 2024-25 season of the Washington Commanders.
Her ability to engage audiences with captivating content, authentic storytelling, and strategic social media marketing, makes her a valuable asset to any newsroom, publication, team, organization, or company.
But Skylar’s impact doesn’t stop there; she is the visionary CEO and Founder of SkyVision Sports, a platform that showcases captivating interviews, reporting, photography, videography, and graphic design. Skylar is working to build and expand on the media of SkyVision Sports even further while also adding an athlete representation component to the platform. Skylar is truly committed to creating a space for athletes to share their stories as well as receive the exposure and representation needed to achieve their goals. Inspiring others to embrace and create their own visions in life is something that Skylar embodies and is set within the foundation of SkyVision Sports.
Skylar has seamlessly expanded her impact beyond journalism and media, taking on leadership roles such as Vice President of HBCU Imprint, INC., and Community Service Coordinator for the Cathy Hughes School of Communications Student Council during the 2023-24 school year. She is also a proud mentor with B.E.S.T. You Programming, mentoring elementary school girls in Washington, D.C. In these roles, Skylar works diligently to serve her community, empower the youth, and create meaningful opportunities for students to achieve their goals.
Upon completing her undergraduate studies, Skylar plans to pursue a career in sport broadcasting while also exploring opportunities in sports law and NIL. Her multifaceted skill set, passion for storytelling, and commitment to community empowerment ensures that she will continue to make a significant impact in sports and beyond.
